Patagonia en Peligro

La empresa Hidroaysen pretende construir cinco megacentrales hidroeléctricas en las cuencas de los ríos Baker y Pascua en la Patagonia chilena, destruyendo con sus embalses las riberas, el ecosistema original, su rica fauna y la cultura local. El tendido eléctrico, que debería llegar desde Aysén a Santiago, distante a más de 2000 Km., para luego llevar 1000 Km. más al norte la energía para la minería, deformando el paisaje y dañando selvas y bosques vírgenes. La empresa, con todo su poderío económico, sostiene una campaña del terror por los medios, afirmando engañosamente que la alternativa a estas centrales es la oscuridad. En "Patagonia sin Represas" creemos que ya no podemos violentar más a la tierra y tenemos que defenderla. Al contrario de Hidroaysén, creemos justamente que hay alternativas energéticas y compatibles con la conservación de la naturaleza, pero no tenemos un planeta alternativo. Patagonia in Danger

The Hidroaysen company intends to build five mega hydroelectric facilities in the basins of Baker and Pascua rivers in Chilean Patagonia, destroying the banks of its reservoirs, the original ecosystem, rich fauna and local culture. Power lines should go from Aysén to Santiago, a distance of more than 2000 km, to then take energy for mining 1000 km further north, flattening the landscape and damaging existing jungle and virgin forests. The company, with its economic power, is holding a terror campaign through the media, falsely claiming that the alternative to these plants is darkness. In "Patagonia without dams" we believe that the earth can’t continue being violated, it must be defended. We are opposed to Hidroaysén and we believe that while there are alternative energies compatible with conservation of nature, we don’t have an alternative planet.
